The Government of Lesotho through the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development is entitled in ensuring care and support of children;s needs hence provision of social grants for basic needs.This was confirmed by the Ministry’s Social Worker from the Child Protection Services Ms. Realeboha Mohapi made the during commemoration of African Child Day held at Amitofo Care Centre on Tuesday.
Ms. Mohapi said every child has a full right to be cared for, saying her ministry is doing a lot in ensuring children’s welfare and protection of their rights in all forms. She said in 1976 South African Youths marched and protested against poor education they received, demanding to be taught in their mother tongue not in Afrikaans as it was the case then and other issues affecting their education.
Speaking at the same time Mr. Lehlohonolo Pii from the Department of National Identity and Civil Registration in the ministry of local Government Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police said every child has right to be registered to ensure quality data on country’s population while at the same time preparing for national planning systems and confirmed that all their services are being offered freely.
