Mohale's Hoek, June.03 -- The Disaster Management Authority's Chief Executive Officer Mr. Reatile Elias, has paid a courtesy call to the District Disaster Management Team (DDMT), at the District Administrator's office.
Mr. Elias stated that he is very much aware of the challenges facing various districts regarding delivering services to communities, however advised the team to operate with the little resources in their possession with the help of the relevant office, Disaster Management Authority, (DMA)
He additionally articulated that with funding from the World Food Programme, (WFP) the government of Lesotho is embarking on a journey to scrutinize the 1997 DMA Act, but acknowledged he is aware that the DDMT's are not partaking in the process, citing it should have been consultative.
Mr. Elias further stated that the DMA has a 5-year Strategic Plan which will be broken down into a period of 1 year, to clearly elaborate the way in which the authority will be carrying out its responsibilities.
The latter concluded by tasking the Disaster Manager Mr. Lebohang Moletsane to distribute documents like the National Strategic Development Plan II (NSDP) and others to the DDMT members, alongside his working contract, citing it was the Prime Minister's order that contracts of all senior government officials be made public.
Mr. Elias, who is on a 3-year contract, assumed his responsibilities on May 01, succeeding the former CEO who was killed on October, 2023.
