The Lesotho Mounted Police Service has shown great concern on the reported cases of sexual abuse perpetrated on the victims by people who are close to them.
This comes after a 14-year-old girl was reported to have been raped by her father. According to Inspector Monehela Matete of the Children and Gender Protection Unit (CGPU) office at the Thamae Police station, their office received a report on the victim who has been sexually assaulted by her father since she was 11 years old.
Inspector Matete said that men are supposed to be protectors of women and girls and create a safe and comfortable space for them as opposed to what men have turned to be against women and girls.
He therefore appealed to children and all women to report any form of abuse perpetrated on them so that the Police can be able to protect them from their officers.
The said accused on this matter was denied bail before the court in a case which was before Magistrate Khechane and Prosecutor Lerotholi. He is expected to remain in Police custody until his next hearing.
