The Ministry of Public Service has held a 2-day Performance Management Sensitization meeting for government officers, with the aim of informing them about the Performance Management System.
Senior Performance Management Officer Ms. Malebete Phenya stated that the Performance Management System is all about setting individual goals, annual work plan and analysing changes which might arise during implementation of the set goals.
Ms. Phenya articulated that they are conducting the sensitization in alignment with the Public Service Act of 2008, noting the system would help employees to upgrade their performance so that those who offer services do so effectively, knowing that there will be repercussions if they under perform.
She further noted the purpose of the Performance Management System is not to torment civil servants but to ensure that they perform their duties, noting that they have already trained Human Resources Managers, Heads of Departments and directors so that they pass the message to their juniors.
Ms. Phenya stated that they have partnered with LDF, to assist them in dealing with change management issues, and measures to be used when implementing changes in various ministries, without instilling anxiety or resilience in employees.
Meanwhile, one civil servant who commented on condition anonymity, stated that employers are expecting them to perform to the best of their ability, not considering the scarcity of resources employees are faced with.
The performance management sensitization is expected to be completed by July 16.
