Maseru __ The Hub, a creative technology lab within the Morija Museum and Archives Arts Centre has on Saturday celebrated ten years of its existence and transforming lives through technology.
Speaking at an event held in Morija, Chairperson of the Board of the Morija Museum and Archives Mr. Thabo Makara stated that since its establishment, the facility has empowered the youth and helped them develop their skills.
Mr. Makara described it as a hub of creativity focusing on adding value to the community of Morija and the outreaches of the Lesotho Evangelical Church in Southern Africa (LECSA).
Also speaking at the same event, LECSA Moderator Reverend Mojaki Kometsi acknowledged partners and sponsors for ensuring that The Hub exists and thrives.
Rev. Kometsi further acknowledged support from the patron of the Morija Museum and Archives Queen 'Masenate Mohato Seeiso.
He pointed out that this year marks the beginning of another decade and expressed hope that the facility will continue to improve lives in years beyond that. Speaking on behalf of the chief of Morija, Mr. Thabang Kokome recognised the development which the facility has brought in Morija.
Mr. Kokome indicated that the facility is an essential part of the area adding that it is a reflection of the good work done by the church and therefore wished for its growth.
Honorary Coordinator of The Hub Ms. Meri Hyoky stated that they have been able to contribute in enhancing education in the country by among others providing books to Early Childhood Care and Development Centres (ECCDs) and vocational schools.
Ms. Hyoky added that they have also developed enhanced nutrition while also emphasising that young Basotho activists still have a lot to do to ensure the development of Lesotho.
Speaking on behalf of sponsors, a representative from Vodacom Lesotho Foundation Miss Keneuoe Semphi said that through The Hub, lives have been touched and transformed.
Miss Semphi emphasised that technology is essential to thrive adding that it should continue to be used to improve lives.
She indicated that vulnerable groups must be assisted to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
In her remarks on behalf of the Matsieng Schools Centre, Mrs Maseretse Matsoso from Morija Primary School stated that the facility has helped learners perform well in their studies.
Mrs. Matsoso pointed out that during COVID-19 they were equipped with skills and knowledge on mental health which was a great challenge for many at that time.
Established in 2015, The Hub provides a platform for young people to network and learn while using technology to improve their lives and those around them.
