The Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Mr. Limpho Tau has on Monday handed over 14 completed houses to the beneficiaries at the event organized by Disaster Management Authority (DMA) at Peka Tabola in Leribe.

The beneficiaries were from Peka, Mahobong, Kolonyama, Tsikoane, Matlakeng and Pela Ts'oeu constituencies.  Addressing the crowd, Mr. Tau said the government has full responsibility to see to it that the citizens are protected hence the houses.

He explained that the Member of Parliament for Peka constituency reported 28 houses affected by strong winds last year. He mentioned that the two roomed houses are fully completed with floor tiles, ceiling and painted walls. The Minister highlighted that the 14 houses each cost about M150,000.00. He appealed to the beneficiaries to take good care of the houses.

In conclusion, he expressed his gratitude to the contractors, for having completed the houses, saying this will open more job opportunities for them.

Speaking at the same event, Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office Mrs. 'Mabataung Khalane said due to climate change the houses are also affected. She mentioned that the same event was held at Rothe, whereby the new houses were handed over to the beneficiaries.

Echoing the same sentiments, Dis Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Reatile Elias said out of the 14 houses constructed to date, eight have been completed in Leribe. He said the event is an indication that all other houses to be completed are officially handed over by the Minister, saying the members of parliament will complete the process.

Member of Parliament for Peka constituency Mr. Mohopoli Monokoane said last year in October they were hit by strong winds where about 28 houses were damaged. He said he reported the matter to the office of the Prime Minister and Mr. Tau came to inspect the houses.

Mr. Monokoane said five of the houses are completed out of 28 and it is with hope that within six months those left aside will be completed. He said this is a clear indication that the government will be doing more wonders for the people.

Speaking at the same event, Community Councillor Tabola Mr. Mphoso Theoha appealed to the government that citizens in other areas be assisted too. He said though other residents are not happy, they should understand that with time they will also receive the houses.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the government.  The same event will follow in Berea.
