The Ministry of Development Planning will commemorate the African Child day on the 16 June 2019.

The Acting Minister of Development Planning Honourable Temeki Tsholo, indicated that this is a crucial day in the life of African child.

He said the theme for this year is “Humanitarian Action in African children’s rights first”.

Tsholo stated that this day marks and honours heroes who fought and lost their lives in 1976, where youth in South Africa were fighting for their education rights.

The kingdom of Lesotho shall however celebrate this day on the 18 June 2019, as the official day which is June 16th will be on a Sunday therefore Lesotho decided to celebrate it after.

Furthermore this day will be commemorated in Quthing District because it is a place that was badly affected by a strong hail last year, and it is also where most children are not well taken care of because their parents crossed to South Africa at a very alarming rate.
