The Lesotho Institute of Accountants (LIA) is continuing with its 10th Annual Conference in Maseru, which began on Wednesday and will end today.

The key note speaker for this year’s conference Professor Patrick Lumumba, addressed the conference on the theme; “Accelerating Public Sector Performance in Developing Countries”.

Professor Lumumba said he believes this theme, was derived to define the continent of Africa.

He said over the years Africa has had itself referred to in many ways, and there was a time it was in the third world, a time it was under developed, and now African countries are referred to as developing countries.

Professor Lumumba said African countries have visions in different sectors including health and education, but they fail to achieve them.

He said during the liberation struggle, African leaders promised they will improve public services in their own countries, but now they seek medical services in other countries, as health services in clinics and hospitals in their own countries are poor.

In his remarks Professor Lumumba said the problem with Africans, is that they do not have confidence in themselves.
