The Disease Outbreak Control Division of the Ministry of Health discovered that four children in Ha-Lebete Lebakeng in the Qacha’s Nek district are infected with measles.

The Deputy Minister of Health Honorable ‘Manthabiseng Phohleli says the Disaster Management Authority of the district, together with Ministry of Health, World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, are planning to visit the affected villages to prevent the disease from spreading in other areas in the country.

She said the measures already taken to stop the disease, include working hand in hand with the district to raise awareness of the disease, to residents of the affected areas.

Phohleli said measles is a highly contagious disease, and a child who has infection shows signs including fever and rash that goes with coughing, running nose and red eyes filled with tears.

In her remarks she encouraged parents to take their kids to hospitals and clinics to be immunized against the disease, as injections for all diseases affecting babies are available in clinics and hospitals.
