The Right Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Motsoahae Thomas Thabane has announced that he intends to step down as the Prime Minister of Lesotho, once the necessary arrangements have been completed.

Speaking in Maseru on Monday the 20th January 2020, he said he is confident that his party and the Parliament of Lesotho will come up with a suitable candidate to succeed him by then.

Dr. Thabane explained that he has communicated this matter to His Majesty King Letsie III, his coalition partners and the National Executive Committees, committee of the All Basotho Convention (ABC) as well as members of the cabinet.

He said he believes that the Parliament of Lesotho and his political party will have enough time to think over this matter, and prepare to elect his successor.
