Lesotho National League for Visually Impaired Persons (LNLVIP) is continuing to hold public gatherings and visit churches as well as schools to raise awareness on visual impairment. According to LNLVIP President Mr. Jeremane Tele, the visual impairment awareness campaign, which commenced earlier this month is intended to sensitise members of the public about escalating visual impairment among people and encourage those who have eye problems to consult doctors. He added that the objective is to encourage those who were not born visually impaired but have lost eye sight along the way to go to the League’s centre

”Mohloli oa Bophelo Rehabilitation Centre” to be rehabilitated as most of them take time to accept their disability. He clarified that the centre provides the visually impaired with training in braille writing, mobility and orientation and equips them with skills in home economics so that they could be able to do daily activities. Mr. Tele emphasised that inaccessibility of infrastructure and information remain challenges among people with visual impairment especially those living in remote areas, saying they rely on radios for information. However, he commended the Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports, Arts, Culture and Social Development for continuing to provide white canes for visually impaired persons.
