D-permit negotiations continue
05 February 2024 | 15:45

Negotiations regarding the amendment of condition number eight of the Road Transport Regulations are continuing.

This was said by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport Public Relations Manager Mrs. Ntumeleng Nts'ekhe, who said it is now a month since the Road Transport Board informed the nation that 8th section of the Road Transport Regulations will be amended.

Mrs. Nts'ekhe said negotiations are between the Road Transport Board, taxi associations and other stakeholders, saying they are expected to meet with the Minister of Public Works and Transport next week and hopefully that meeting will mark the end of negotiations.

Earlier at the press conference, the Traffic Commissioner Mrs. Mathabo Ts'osane announced that the Board has decided to amend the D-permit, indicating that the 4+1 taxis will no longer ferry passengers within the radius of 10 kilometers in a local area where the vehicle is stationed but will now operate beyond that radius but within Maseru City Council boundaries.

She clarified that the decision was reached upon realization that Maseru city has expanded, saying 4+1 taxis are meant to ensure urban mobility hence the amendment of this condition.
