The acting Commissioner of Police Dr. Mahlape Morai, during the press conference on Tuesday, said the challenges of crime that Lesotho is faced with keeps changing from year to year ranging from stock theft, gender-based violence, assaults and murders, but the mandate of the police towards ending such crimes remains the same.

She stipulated that the police’s main duty is to help lower crime rate and prevent crime in the country and that they are going to improve their strategies as the police to protect the public with the presence of all the police squares of towns and villages and talk to other departments involved in the area of public security. She further indicated that police are working hard to prevent stock theft in different highland areas.

In conclusion, Dr. Morai revealed that the police vision is to work together with the community service forum members to approach the public and train them not to take the law into their own hands.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Moqhebi Likhama added that Lesotho police have direct relations with the South African police which are aimed at ending crime between the borders of the two countries.

However, he also communicated that Basotho should stop keeping their animals far from them and have their animals tattooed near their ears.
