District Council Secretary of Leribe, Mr Tsholo Thabana, in a meeting of heads of department on Wednesday, said the development and building of Hlotse taxi rank is in progress since last week.

Thabana said the taxi rank has been in bad condition for a long time hence they appreciate the construction. He explained that the machinery is already working on levelling of the ground where the street vendors will be moved to during the construction. He also said the gravel roads going via the old magistrate court are to be maintained to allow movement of taxis to and from Butha Buthe and Maputsoe.

Speaking at the same meeting, Chief of Khanyane, Chief  Malefetsane Moliboea  said the construction is going to take a year as stated during the meeting with the constructors. He highlighted that the hiring of workers will be conducted by community councilors within Hlotse Urban council.

However, he mentioned that there are complaints from street vendors on the construction to take place, citing no billboard of the construction near the rank and they were not told in time to prepare for moving for Lesotho Electricity Company and Water and Sewerage Corporation (WASCO) to help in electricity and water supply. He stated that such has to be taken into consideration.
