Availability of water at Ha Foso over the weekend forms part of Water and Sewage Company’s (WASCO) initiative to resolve the water scarcity at that village and Ha Ts'osane which commenced a few weeks ago.

WASCO Acting Public Relations Manager Mr. Rethabile Lefantsatsa told the Agency in an interview that this does not mean things are back to normal but the company advised itself to come up with plan B and provide water at each village for 24 hours not only for 12 hours as it used to be the case.

"What happened at Ha Foso over the weekend is a test and we aim to do that interchangeably with Ha Ts'osane to address the water challenge" he said.

He indicated that they used to provide water interchangeably at ha Foso and Ts'osane on daily basis, that is 12 hours at Ts’osane and another 12 at Foso but received a report that the supply is cut even before other households could access it hence the current test.

He said if this test works and villagers are satisfied, they will continue with it until the Reservoir construction at Maqhaka is completed as the one at Ts'osane no longer supplies enough water due to high demand.

"We are intending to hold public gatherings at affected villages to get their opinions and map the way," he said.

In another issue, Mr. Lefantsatsa said the company is continuing to clean and fresh out its reservoirs to combat a challenge of reddish worms and brown particles found in water especially at areas within Maseru.

Some villagers commanded the company for the initiative however said they cannot take it anymore and urged the company to complete the construction work at Maqhaka as soon as possible.

Meanwhile the reservoir to be constructed at Maqhaka will supply water to Maqhaka, Berea and Foso community and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

WASCO has over 92 000 customers which is 60 percent of the total urban population. It was established with the objective to produce and distribute potable water and provide sanitation services to valued customers in an environmentally friendly manner.
