The Disaster Management Authority in collaboration nutrition stakeholders from governmental and non-governmental organizations are currently engagedin a twelve-day assessment to monitor impact of drought within selected areas in the district .

The initiative which started on Tuesday last week is expected to end on Wednesday next week and is being carried out within lowlands and foothills of the district. 

In an interview with the District Disaster Management Officer Mrs. Matlotliso Sekhesa said the overall objective for conducting the vulnerability assessment is to monitor food security and nutrition situation at the mentioned selected areas.

She highlighted that it is done through monitoring of household livelihoods in order to understand access to food with the intention to inform decision makers on the design and implementation of appropriate interventions where necessary.

Mrs. Sekhesa indicated that during the assessment they are assessing the impact of drought on water, agriculture and food security as well as health and nutrition while at the same time identifying capacities, vulnerabilities and opportunities of affected communities.<<MONATE>>>
