PRESS STATEMENT

Maseru (15/01/2018) – Management of Letšeng Diamonds is pleased to announce the recovery of a high quality 910 carat, D colour Type IIa diamond on Friday 12 January 2018.  The diamond is the largest to be recovered from the mine and is believed to be the fifth largest gem quality diamond ever recovered.

Letšeng’s Chairman, Mr Clifford Elphick, and Minister of Mining, Hon. Keketso Sello, viewed the diamond in the mine’s Recovery Plant this morning. Since Gem Diamonds acquired Letšeng in 2006, the mine has produced some of the world's most remarkable diamonds, including the 603-carat Lesotho Promise. However, this exceptional top quality diamond is the largest to be mined to date and highlights the unsurpassed quality of diamonds from Letšeng Diamond Mine.

“This is a landmark recovery for all of Gem Diamonds' stakeholders, including our employees, shareholders and the Government of Lesotho, our partner in the Letšeng mine," said Mr Clifford Elphick.  About Letšeng: Letšeng Diamonds is a mining company that owns and operates Letšeng Diamond Mine. Gem Diamonds Limited acquired the mine in October 2006 and owns 70% of shares while the Government of Lesotho holds the remaining 30%.
