Lesotho opposition parties withdraw from negotiations with the government
19 April 2018 | 13:17

The opposition parties in the parliament of Lesotho and the coalition of opposition parties outside the parliament, met in Maseru yesterday to announce their view on the condition of negotiations between the government and opposition parties.

Speaking at the meeting the deputy leader of Democratic Congress(DC) Honorable Mathibeli Mokhothu, said negotiations between the Government of Lesotho and opposition parties is impossible.

He said it has been a while they ignored a war of words by the government to courts of law in the country, and the cruel advice of the Prime Minister to the King.

He said King Letsie III is advised to honour the appointment of two presidents of Court of Appeal, while the president who is appointed first is not demoted by the legal gazette.

Honorable Mokhothu indicated that the government war is mostly directed to Chief Justice, whom government ministers have turned her into a play ground, by humiliating her from her office and by the house she is living in.

He further said the Prime Minister is busy appointing members of his party to judicial positions in the county, which include appointing old well known politician to the position of Government Secretary.

He went on to say as the Lesotho Christian Council(CCL) and SADC, are striving to have negotiations with the leader of Lesotho Congress for Democracy(LCD), they are surprised to see the government raising extradition against him instead of negotiations.

He said under these conditions as opposition parties, they decided to withdraw from negotiations with the government, until SADC has taken control of such negotiations.
