The Progressive Association of Lesotho Teachers(PALT) held a press conference on Saturday last week, to announce the success of their negotiations with the government, to review the salary structure of teachers and the teaching career structure in the country.
At the conference PALT Chairperson Mr Paul Sematlane, said in their seventh Annual National Congress held in 2015, PALT’s delegates passed a strong resolution for the union to spearhead the restructuring of teachers salaries, and career structure for the purpose of motivating and retaining teachers.
He said several attempts were undertaken by the union to push the Ministry of Education, into negotiating adjustments and review of teachers salaries and career structuring.
He further said it was on the basis of these attempts that PALT, had filed and declared a dispute of interest in the count of DDPR, where the settlement agreement was signed between PALT and the Ministry of Education and Training, to restructure the teachers’ salaries and their career structure.
He pointed out that if this settlement agreement was not signed by the time, PALT was qualified to pursue the Ministry by declaring a lawful industrial action.
He however said they are happy to announce today that, the structuring process of teachers salaries and career structure has started.
