Minister of Education Dr Ntoi Rapapa says Ministry of Education and the Government of Lesotho, are aware that three out of five teachers’ unions, being LTTU, LAT and LEPSA, released a statement saying they are going on strike against the Ministry of Education on the 2nd and the 3rd August 2018.

He reminded the public that teachers handed their petition letter to him and the prime minister, and they provided written answers to teachers’ complaints.

He pointed out that his ministry and the office of the government secretary, had several meetings with teachers unions to discuss the way forward, and the government’s preparations for solving teachers complaints.

He further indicated that the ministry has formed the teachers’ career and salary structure committee, comprised of the representatives of all teachers’ unions.

Honorable Rapapa said the Government of Lesotho has decided to review the number of registered teachers in the country, their qualifications and their identity documents in August and September this year.

He said the government calls on the teachers, and school principals not to be part of this strike.
