MINISTERS CABINET REVIEWS FACTORY WORKERS SALARIES.
Ministers cabinet reviews factory workers salaries.
10 August 2018 | 12:49

Factory workers in Maseru and Maputsoe went on a strike yesterday, by blocking roads and damaging property demanding their salaries to be increased.

This came after workers unions held a press conference in Maseru last week, announcing that on the 9th August this year private sector workers will start industrial action against their shameful salaries.

The workers unions indicated that following the submission of petition letter to the Minister of Public Service in June 2018, the prime minister had promised that he will provide answers to the complains of factory workers within fourteen days, but when they held a press conference last week, it was three days after the fourteen days period had elapsed.

On the other hand the Public Relations Officer in the Prime Minister’s office Mr Thabo Thakalekoala, yesterday said the ministers cabinet reviewed the salaries of factory workers, and decided that their monthly minimum wage will be M2000.

He explained that the minister’s cabinet instructed the Minister of Public Service and Employment, Minister of Public Works and Transport, and the Minister in the Prime Minister’s office to convene a meeting, with employees wages board to implement new salary structure of factory workers.
