Maseru ___ The Batswana are ready to welcome Basotho together with the National Revival Torch known as 'Lebone la Tsosoloso' in Botswana from October 09 -12 2025.
This was revealed by Dr. Monaheng Mahlatsi, a member of Project Re in an interview with the Agency during a visit by Chief of Basotho in Botswana Chief Paul Letshikoana, Barolong Chief in Botswana, Kgosi-kgolo Lotlamoreng II and the Botswana Government representative Councillor Kgotlaetsile Makgetha in Lesotho.
The National Revival Torch is scheduled to visit Botswana in October where Basotho is found, with a main reception ceremony scheduled to take place on October 10 2025 at Tlhareseleele Village of Basotho in the Good Hope district of Tshidi-Barolong of Botswana.
Dr. Mahlatsi stated that the Botswana delegation has expressed excitement for the event. He added that they are also excited that there are Barolong in Lesotho and Basotho in Botswana. He pointed out that the relations between the Basotho and Batswana which were built when the Barolong welcomed Basotho from Likhoele in Mafeteng after the Lifaqane War, must be sustained.
He further pointed out that the National Revival Torch whose motto is 'Sekoele Basotho' which calls for Basotho to return to their roots symbolises rebirth, revival and transformation. He indicated that it has already been to some parts of South Africa in Matatiele, Qwaqwa and Gauteng where Basotho are found. He said it is anticipated that from Botswana, it will move to other African countries where the Basotho are living.
In addition to being in the Free State, Eastern Cape and Gauteng provincies, it has also toured Butha-Buthe, Thaba-Tseka, Mafeteng, Mohale's Hoek and Maseru where the reception demonstrated acknowledgement of the call for social transformation and national revival.
According to a statement from Project Re, the tour of the National Revival Torch takes place in the midst of recent establishment of Bi-National Commission for Cooperation and Development between Lesotho and Botswana which was signed on July 15 2025 in Maseru during a state visit to Lesotho by the President of Botswana Advocate Duma Boko.
Apart from contributing towards improving relations between Lesotho and Botswana, the National Revival Torch is expected to help establish and enhance economic, cultural, diplomatic and social relations between the two nations.
The National Revival Torch was officially launched by King Letsie III on November 23 2023 as part of celebration of 200 years of the Basotho Nation.
