In a notable show of collaboration and commitment to safety, the Water and Sewerage Company (Wasco), in partnership with the Commission of Water (COW), the Disaster Management Authority (DMA), World Vision, and the Lesotho Red Cross, conducted a joint drill exercise at the Metolong Dam on Wednesday.

The primary objective of this simulation exercise was to evaluate and enhance the readiness and response capabilities of various stakeholders in the event of a potential collapse of the Metolong Dam. This critical initiative aimed to ensure a coordinated and efficient emergency response, thereby safeguarding the lives of residents and the environment in the surrounding areas.

During the drill, participating organizations tested their emergency response plans, procedures, and communication protocols in a controlled environment. The exercise aimed to identify areas for improvement and ensure that all parties involved are well-prepared for any unforeseen circumstances.

Participants praised the collaborative effort, noting that the exercise allowed for valuable insights and a deeper understanding of each organization's role in emergency management. The commitment from all involved parties to work together highlights the importance of proactive measures in disaster preparedness.

World Vision's Communication Manager Ms Lerato Brown, shared her thoughts on the organization's participation, saying they are proud to be part of this important exercise alongside other partners.

She said  World Vision’s mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable communities, and ensuring their safety during natural disasters, so by participating in this simulation, they are not only enhancing their own preparedness but also reinforcing the collective strength and coordination needed to respond effectively to emergencies.

She emphasized the significance of collaboration in disaster management, saying, working together with organizations like Wasco, the COW, the DMA, and others allows them to build a more resilient community.  She indicated that it is vital that each stakeholder understands their role in a crisis, and drills like this provide the necessary training and insight.

The joint drill at Metolong Dam exemplifies the collective effort necessary for effective disaster response and sets a standard for future collaborations aimed at enhancing community safety and resilience.
