Mohale's Hoek, Aug.07 – Nutrition Officer in Mohale's Hoek's Correctional Services Mrs. 'Maneo Ts'ola-Nku, says the facility has resuscitated a fitness group with inmates from 40 years of age and upwards aimed at keeping them in good body shape while maintaining healthy lifestyle.
Mrs. Ts'ola-Nku stated this during the District Nutrition Team's meeting, by noting that nutrition officers pay a visit to inmates at the facility's clinic weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday for screening purposes, stating their counterpart from Mafeteng is supplying inmates with vegetables such as cabbage at no cost, making it easier for them to eat healthier food with fresh vegetables.
On the other hand, the District Nutrition Officer from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition Mrs. 'Mahlonepho Mabaso, mentioned that they are holding life skills sessions on nutrition, establishing school gardening, how to make clay ovens, as well as sensitizing area chiefs to join nutrition clubs in their respective villages.
Meanwhile, the District Food and Nutrition officer (FNCO) Mrs. 'Manyeoe Tsoho indicated that with Breast Feeding event expected to be commemorated next week, there is a concern about breast feeding which seems to have dropped in the first hour amongst nursing mothers, calling for mobilization of child bearing stage girls, adolescents and breast-feeding women.
The statement has been corroborated by World Vision Lesotho, by reporting that figures show that Bethel, Mootsinyane, Nts'ekhe and Lithipeng clinics, have reported a huge decline in breast feeding to 33, 78 and 69 percent respectively, hence the need to mobilize the aforementioned clinics, inclusive of Phamong which has seen a high rate of teenage pregnancy.
