Maseru, Aug. 07 -- The Leader of the House Justice Nthomeng Majara refuted allegations regarding the person employed to operate a ferry boat at Shalane Crossing in Phamong Constituency, Mohale's Hoek who is alleged to have taken possession of the boat illegally.

This, she said in the National Assembly on Thursday when responding to a question of Phamong MP Mrs. Marefuope 'Muso regarding the above, adding that it is not true the above-mentioned person has repositioned the boat at the crossing at Ha Makhabane, Lehlakeng where he is also alleged to have hired another person to transport people across the river for a fee.

Justice Majara said the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police sent officers from the Ministry to Shalane crossing to investigate these issues and discovered that the boat is still there and driven by a civil servant by the name of Likhetho Chocha.

She added that they also engaged in talks with the community and Chieftainess Malekunutu Lesaoana who confirmed that the boat is always there and people are not charged, saying they also disclosed that the boat based at Ha Makhabane, Lehlakeng is driven by Mr. Keketso Lerata who volunteered to do so and does not charge people but the latter do so as a token of appreciation.

Meanwhile Justice Majara earlier stood on point in order to express appreciation to people who have contributed in reforms, in particular the constitutional reforms as the House completed to consider Senate Amendments to Tenth Amendment to the Constitution Bill, 2024 on Wednesday (yesterday).

However other MPs urged the Leader to come with the official statement on this matter since it marked a milestone in the history of reforms so that they could also share their views and ask questions when there is need.

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mrs. Ts'epang Mosena therefore ruled that the Leader must go and prepare the statement and share it with the House.
