Following 3 days training aimed at resuscitating Policing Forums Committees at Phamong ,Chief Hlomelang Teane from Shalane says the days allocated for the training are not enough to touch all topics pertaining to crime prevention.
Chief Teane stated that the committees no longer have adequate members as some have left villages in search of jobs while others seem to have lost interest, noting these types of training need to be carried out more often, considering the rate at which criminal activities are accelerating, bringing more challenges within various communities.
On the other hand Sub-Inspector Mojalefa Posholi from the LMPS Crime Prevention, emphasised the importance of partnering with Policing Forums in the fight against crime as most criminal activities happen in communities in the absence of police officers, however reminded them that it is illegal for victims of crime to be assaulted during apprehension, as officers find themselves having open cases against the very same people who are supposed to be assisting officers.
On the other hand one committee member Mrs. Novomile Motakabone, indicated that they have trained on different forms of abuse, how to approach and detain anyone suspected to have committed a criminal activity, noting they have also been advised to refrain from assaulting suspects, as doing so would be breaking the law they are supposed to be protecting.
The training has been attended by about forty-six policing forum committee members from seven villages
