Minister of Health Honorable Nkaku Kabi attended the World Health Assembly-71, of World Health Organisation(WHO) member states in Geneva Switzerland last week, that was focused on the Universal Health Coverage(UHC).

During the assembly Honorable Kabi said Lesotho has a mountainous terrain, which makes access to essential services by rural communities difficult or even inaccessible.

He indicated that UHC is priority number one for the Government of Lesotho, and is followed by HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, and control of non-communicable diseases.

He further said among key elements of the Universal Health Coverage, Lesotho is focusing on ensuring that health facilities are equitably distributed, and are equally accessible by all citizens.

He said Lesotho is also focusing on attaining complement of both technical and supportive staff, in all health facilities at different levels of care, and the government has trained community health workers at community level, and provided them with incentives.

Honorable Kabi said Lesotho has begun the journey towards attainment of UHC, particularly by rural community, through ensuring that clinics and health posts in such areas are functional, staffed and equipped daily.
