The Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane handed over 39 vehicles to the National Security Services (NSS) in Maseru on Thursday.

While handing over this vehicle, Mr. Matekane said that the initiative comes in as a way of the government to equip its departments with resources to accelerate effective service delivery for the nation.

He stated that with these vehicles, the aim is to ensure the easy mobility of the NSS throughout the country.

Matekane however urged the security service to see to it that the vehicles are put into good use to help curb the ongoing rates of crime which includes corruption that seems to be escalating across the country.

Moreover, the Prime Minister mentioned that the needs of the National Security Services that have been put on his table are numerous which he said with time they will be archived.

In his acceptance remarks, the acting Director of NSS Mr. Lebohang Mafisa said that this is the first time each district office will be getting a brand-new car.

He indicated that they previously used hired vehicles which he said compromised the work of his office.

He therefore applauded the government saying this will also be a motivation to them for ensuring the safety of the country and its nation.

Meanwhile, the service provider in this initiative Mr. Hasa Lelimo thanked the government for honouring them with an opportunity to supply with the vehicles saying it helps in growing local businesses as tax remittances are being collected locally and that will enable for creation of employment again as Basotho owned businesses will grow.

Lelimo however mentioned that as the company they are willing to work with NSS in providing free driving training which will enable easy operations of the vehicles for them to last longer.

The 39 vehicles are reported to have been purchased with about M20 million for the financial year 2024-2025 and are expected to be bought for the other next to financial years leading to 2027.
