Maseru, June 18 – District Football Association (DIFA) Berea and DIFA Maseru on Tuesday officially launched the Queen's Cup tournament, which is scheduled to kick off on June 27 and 28 and conclude on July 04 in Maseru.

In an interview with the Agency, DIFA Berea President Mr. Lekhooa Thabaneng said four teams will represent Berea District in the competition.

He identified the teams as Berea Ladies, Amazulu Ladies, Mafokotsane Ladies and Koalepe Ladies, noting that they earned their places through strong performances in previous tournaments.

Mr. Thabaneng said women's football in the district continues to face a number of challenges, including a shortage of players and limited access to playing grounds.

He indicated that boys' teams are often given priority in the allocation of sports facilities, which affects the growth and development of women's football.

He appealed to members of the public to support the participating teams, highlighting that entrance to the matches will be free in an effort to attract more spectators.

Mr. Thabaneng further stated that the tournament is known as the Queen's Cup in honour of Her Majesty the Queen, adding that the competition aims to promote and strengthen women's football in the country.

The tournament is expected to bring together teams from different districts to showcase talent and encourage greater participation of women in football.
