MASERU – Two Basotho student-athletes are set to take their talents and books abroad after securing international scholarships through Kick4Life Football Club, proving that sport can be a pathway to education and a better future.

The latest cohort will pursue studies and football opportunities in the United States and South Africa, continuing Kick4Life’s mission of combining sport with education and leadership.

Kick4Life Country Director Mr. Motlatsi Nkhahle said the club’s work goes beyond the pitch.

“Our goal is not just to produce footballers. We are developing young Basotho with skills, character and opportunities that can transform their lives and communities,” Nkhahle said.

Among the beneficiaries is Mr.Thabo Motsopa, who will join the African Leadership Academy through a leadership programme, while Mr. Bafokeng Nts’eno will pursue studies in the United States.

Kick4Life Academics Coordinator and Safeguarding Officer Ms. Likhapha Khemi said the journey had not been easy for the young people, but challenges had built resilience.

“Their path taught them that success requires commitment and perseverance. They now carry the hopes of their families, schools and the nation,” Ms. Khemi said.

She encouraged other youth facing difficulties to remain determined and seek support from organisations that invest in young people.

Head of Football Development Mr. Muketu Mbo highlighted how character shaped the athletes’ progress.

“Thabo was once seen as a quiet player, but his willingness to listen and learn saw him rise from lower divisions to the elite league. Bafokeng transformed from goalkeeper to elite defender and is now a confident leader on and off the field,” Mr. Mbo said.

Mr. Mbo said discipline and personal growth were key to preparing young athletes for success abroad.

Kick4Life runs its flagship academy programme to identify talent while focusing on education, leadership and character building. The organisation says its social enterprises also generate income that is reinvested into youth development programmes.

The scholarship recipients will now represent Lesotho internationally as they begin the next chapter of their academic and sporting journeys.
