Maseru, June 16 — The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Country Representative to Lesotho, Mr. Deepak Bhaskaran, on Monday paid farewell courtesy calls on the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Richard Ramoeletsi and the Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane as he concluded his tour of duty in the Kingdom of Lesotho.

The farewell meetings provided an opportunity for the Government of Lesotho to acknowledge the strong partnership that has existed between UNICEF and the country during Mr. Bhaskaran's tenure.

Over the years, UNICEF worked closely with the Government and development partners to advance the rights and wellbeing of children through programmes focusing on health, education, child protection, social policy, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).

These interventions have contributed significantly to improving child health and nutrition services, expanding access to quality education, strengthening child protection mechanisms, and enhancing support for vulnerable children, families, and communities across the country.

Speaking during the farewell engagements, government leaders expressed appreciation for Mr. Bhaskaran's commitment to improving the lives of children in Lesotho and for fostering productive collaboration between UNICEF and national institutions.

The Government further commended UNICEF for its continued support in addressing challenges affecting children and helping to create opportunities for them to thrive.

As Mr. Bhaskaran departs Lesotho, both parties reaffirmed the importance of sustaining the strong partnership between UNICEF and the Government in advancing the welfare and rights of every child.

The Government of Lesotho wished Mr. Bhaskaran success in his future endeavours and expressed confidence that UNICEF's longstanding cooperation with the country will continue to yield positive outcomes for children and communities nationwide.
