Mohale's Hoek ___ Masheleng Community Council Secretary Mrs. Lineo Mokhants'o says the upcoming Wind Energy Project will help in job creation, supply of electricity as well as roads development around the Mashaleng, Thaba-Mokhele and Lithipeng community councils.
Mrs. Mokhants'o stated this following a two-day Sublease Agreement Workshop held for key stakeholders involved in land allocation, with the purpose of discussing the agreement for the project, courtesy of Hirundo Lesotho.
Mokhants'o indicated that between 2020 and 2021, local authorities were taken to a tour guide to Eastern Cape in RSA to see how a Wind Farm operates, and how those turbines generate electricity, which is being supplied to the company that supplies that country with electricity.
Furthermore, Hirundo Lesotho's Communications Officer Ms. Limpho Thoahlane articulated that stakeholder raised important questions about land valuation, contract duration, financial contingencies, community impact, and there was also an emphasis on project visibility, infrastructure development particularly road markings, as well as ensuring transparency through translation of key documents to Sesotho.
Ms. Thoahlane indicated that Hirundo's priority is to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are engaged throughout the process for a smooth progression of the project noting further consultations will continue, while construction is expected to start in 2026-2027 and operational, on condition that all necessary documentation, and funding go according to plans.
The workshop has been attended by representatives from community councils, district legal authorities, district administrator's office and project developers.
