The Movement for Economic Change(MEC) Women’s League, said they are shocked by the Lesotho Mounted Police Services(LMPS)’s announcement, on the disappearance of Mrs ‘Makarabo Mojakhomo from police custody, at LMPS headquarters in Maseru on the 6th June 2018, after being handed over to the unknown people who were believed to be her visitors.
On their press statement MEC Womens’ League, said the LMPS became negligent and careless on this matter.
They said they are convinced that women in Lesotho are not well protected in police custody, if LMPS through its spokesperson found it easy to handover a woman to strangers, then after that the same woman is reported to have disappeared.
They called on the Minister of Police Honorable ‘Mampho Mokhele, to work tirelessly with all her effort, to help police find the woman who disappeared under their arrest.
They encouraged women in other political parties, the Minister of Social Development and non-government organizations, to help the police find Mrs ‘Makarabo Mojakhomo.
MEC’s Women League further encouraged the Government of Lesotho, to separate Ministry of Gender from Ministry of Sports, Culture, Youth and Recreation, so it works independently to solves issues relating to women and children abuse, as women and children are the most vulnerable in the country.
