MINISTRY OF HEALTH CELEBRATES THE WORLD BLOOD DONORS DAY
Ministry of Health celebrates the World Blood Donors Day
15 June 2018 | 11:21

Ministry of Health invites all Basotho to join the world in commemorating this year’s World Blood Donors Day, by any act of honoring voluntary regular blood donors.

The ministry reports that each year on the 14th June the world comes together, to honor and thank blood donors for their selfless act of voluntarily donating blood, to respond to the desperate need for safe blood and blood products.

In commemorating this day Ministry of Health encourages Basotho all around the country, to identify regular blood donors and thank them for the gift of life being safe blood.

The ministry reports that in Lesotho 0.25% of the eligible population, aged between 16 and 60 are regular blood donors who each give blood every three months, and the blood is screened for transfusion transmissible infections, and is also grouped offering new blood donors an opportunity to know their blood groups.

The report further indicates that although it is customary to give regular blood donors recognition badges; it is equally significant to make them feel special and important on World Blood Donors Day.
