MAFETENG — The Ministry of Education and Training, through the Department of Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), will participate in the Southern Regional Sports Day scheduled to take place in Mohale’s Hoek on Thursday this week.

In an interview with the Agency, District Early Childhood Care and Development Officer, Ms. Lerato Possa, said the activity aims to promote a sporting culture among young children and encourage them to develop an interest in sports from an early age.

She said the initiative also seeks to enhance children’s brain coordination, concentration and physical fitness, thereby promoting healthy living.

Ms. Possa said another objective of the event is to raise public awareness about the importance of Early Childhood Care and Development education and demonstrate how play-based learning contributes to children’s overall development and school readiness.

She indicated that the event is expected to bring together ECCD centres from four districts: Mafeteng, Quthing, Qacha’s Nek and the host district, Mohale’s Hoek.

Children will participate in various games, including zigzag races, hula-hoop activities and football, among others.

Ms. Possa noted that a similar Regional Sports Day was previously held in Qacha’s Nek with the same objectives.
