Maseru, May.13 __ Lijabatho Football Club is set to be crowned Premier League champions this coming weekend when they visit Matlama FC at Setsoto Stadium having already secured the 2025/26 championship following the 4-0 thumping of the defending champions Lioli FC over the past week.

According to the public relations officer of Premier League Management Committee (PMLC) Moeketsi Ramakatsa said the 2025/26 Vodacom premier league will end over this weekend and all the matches will kick-off simultaneously.

He said mathematically Maroala FC has already been relegated to the lower division with Liphakoe FC and members FC set for a final showpiece before one of them get relegated, with Manonyane FC, Limkokwing University FC and Machokha FC surviving the relegation.

Ramakatsa said the current season has shown them that spectators are their biggest ally as they managed to rally behind their teams in all their games “football will always be football with supporters cheering heavily for their teams,” he said, adding that other stakeholders are vitally as important to the development of sports in the country as well.

He emphasized the importance of collaborative effort through sports which saw the renewal of people`s cup 2026 with Sam Matekane foundation and Econet Telecom Lesotho the sponsors, A one day soccer spectacular that was won by Lioli FC through the penalty kicks against Bantu FC played at Bocheletsane ground in Mantsònyane.

Ramakatsa stated that they were overly excited with the reopening of the Setsoto stadium during the second round of the campaign which was all thanks to the efforts of the ministry of sports, which enabled them to host a quadruple of games for the first time in the history of the premier league.

The which was a huge for the competing teams as each was able to walk away with over M100 000 and they also managed to host 3 more quadruple football galore at the stadium.

He said following the conclusion of the league, the focus will then turn to the individual awards, with Tumelong Makhopo Khutlang of Libajatho leading the race to secure their premier league top goals scorer with 18 goals after surpassing his teammate Jane Thabantsò who is at 16 goals but Makhopo will have to score 5 goals against Matlama FC in order to break Litsèpe Marabe`s record of 22 goals in a single season.

Ramakatsa further said other awards will include coach of the season, goalkeeper of the season, player of the season and players of the season among other accolades.

Matlama are expected to form a guard of honour for the newly crowned champions before the commencement of the match.
