Maseru, April 23 — The Minister of Information, Communication, Science, Technology and Innovation’s bold decision to volunteer Lesotho as host of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) Council Meeting in 2023 has proven to be a turning point, positioning the country not only on a progressive digital trajectory but also as a destination rich in culture and heritage.

Speaking at the cultural gala dinner held in honour of participating countries, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, Ms. Bernadette Lewis applauded Lesotho’s efforts noting that as the first African nation to host the prestigious event, it has demonstrated remarkable progress.

She mentioned that Lesotho has successfully showcased its unique blend of innovation and tradition, creating a platform where technology advancement and cultural identity coexist.

Ms. Lewis further highlighted that the country’s commitment to digital transformation, coupled with its warm hospitality has left a lasting impression on delegates from across the Commonwealth.

She added that such gatherings are not only vital for strengthening collaboration among member states but also for sharing knowledge and best practices that can accelerate digital inclusion and sustainable development.

The cultural gala dinner, marked by vibrant traditional music, dance and Basotho attire served as a celebration of unity in diversity, giving international guests a deeper appreciation of Lesotho’s heritage while reinforcing its growing role in the global digital landscape.
