ECONOMIC INCLUSION PROGRAMME TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN MPHOKOJOANE

A programme intended to lift vulnerable households out of poverty through financial assistance will be implemented within the Mphokojoane Community Council in the district in the next two years.

The Economic Inclusion Programme, which is an initiative of Lesotho government with World Bank will benefit 1000 vulnerable families when it phases out in 2027, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer from the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development Mr. Tlali Maphomane said when briefing Head of Departments (HODs) about the programme during their monthly meeting on Tuesday.

He said families will be selected through the National Information System for Social Assistance  thorough assessment being done to ensure those selected are really eligible.

Mr. Maphomane disclosed that after selection, a training on business skills will be conducted as those eligible are expected to embark on businesses of their choice for socio economic development.

From each household, one person will be provided with R5400.00 as capital for the  business they will want to run.

He said in this initiative, the Ministry will be working with World Vision Lesotho, as an implementing partner in this second phase of the programme. The first round of the programme saw Catholic Relief Service (CRS) as an implementing partner in districts in the Southern region of the country.
