Maseru, April 15 – The appointment of new Water and Sewage Company (WASCO) Chief Executive Officer Mr. Lebohang Mpeke Makara, has come at the right time when the company needs strategic redirection to address its operational challenges.

This was said by WASCO Public Relations Officer Mr. Bahlakoana Lehasa in an interview with the Agency, saying since he resumed duties earlier this month, Mr. Makara addressed the water supply crisis in Maputsoe and Mohale’s Hoek as the company has commenced with repair of the water reservoir and plant in these areas.

He added that there is progress in water connections as the project would entirely be implemented by the company with its staff unlike when it was awarded to contractors, saying this would address a backlog of water connections which has since been an outcry of the public.

He further said the CEO affirmed the need to repair leaking pipes on time as it is not only a waste of water but a loss to the company, revealing that he is currently on a study tour in China to learn more about the smart metering project, which the company intends to implement.

Also interviewed were some members of the public who expressed hope that the new CEO would address a challenge of persistent water disconnections.

One Mrs. Mathabelang Posholi who resides at Ha Abia said they face water disconnections almost every week with multiple pipe bursts which are usually left unattended, expressing hope that the new CEO would bring change.

Mr. Makara resumed duties at WASCO on April 01 and has progressive track record of leadership spanning nearly two decades in operational management, plant management, contract management, optimization of large-scale industrial systems, and strategic oversight of complex technical operations across the mining and processing sector in Lesotho and South Africa.
